has been signed by Real Madrid for a record fee of
Euros 100 million = GBP 85 million = NZD 170 million.
The terms are believed to be a six-year contract.
The deal breaks that of Cristiano Ronaldo’s switch from Manchester United to
the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009 for £80m and makes it five times consecutively
that Los Blancos have topped the record.
Along with Ronaldo, Madrid also paid what was a world record fee for Kaka
(2009), Zinedine Zidane (2001) and Luis Figo (2000).
Bale said “Tottenham will always be in my heart and I’m sure that this season
will be a successful one for them.
“I am now looking forward to the next exciting chapter in my life, playing
football for Real Madrid.”
